Huawei United States Case

Two Chinese spies are being charged in America for allegedly undermining a judicial investigation into tech giant Huawei.

Prosecutors say the men tried to recruit a US official as a spy to help disrupt the investigation. Only this officer worked as a double agent for the FBI. "It's like a script for a Hollywood movie."

The two Chinese citizens are said to have tried to bribe the official with bitcoins, cash, and jewelry. "But the FBI knew everything," Postma says. In addition to these two men, 11 other Chinese citizens are also being charged in two other espionage cases.

"This was a blatant attempt by Chinese intelligence to protect a Chinese company and undermine the integrity of our justice system", US Attorney General Merrick Garland said in a news conference.

"The Justice Department will not tolerate any attempt by a foreign power to undermine the rule of law on which our democracy is based."

Incidentally, the name of the tech company is not mentioned, but it has now been made clear in several ways that it is about Huawei. "Sources also report this to American media, and even if you look at previous investigations into Huawei, it cannot be other than this company", says Postma.

Multiple issues

The investigation also focuses on a case in New Jersey, where Chinese men tried to recruit current and former US officials using a fake think tank. And, in New York, Chinese citizens are said to have tried to force a naturalized American citizen to return to China.

'Garland was very clear about that, we don't want to see this kind of Chinese practice here.'
